Good Luck Jane Interview

The Pop-Rock band Good Luck Jane consists of Joey Busse (Lead Vocals), Andrew Slutsky (Guitar, Keys, Vocals), Dan Wywrot (Rhythm Guitar), Danny Katz (Bass, Vocals) and Jake Cooper (Drums). The members of Good Luck Jane are all students at The University of Illinois and through hard work and persistence they have become well established in their local music scene. Having shared the stage with artists such as All Time Low, Yellowcard, Boyce Avenue, Hey Monday, The Summer Set and many more, Good Luck Jane are already on the way to great success and the future for the band looks promising.

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview, how are you?
We are great.

You are all attending The University of Illinois, did you all meet through the university or were some of you friends before?
-Jake and Andrew knew eachother from high school. During Freshman year Jake met Joey who impressed him very much and he happened to know him from his childhood. They then met Dan and Danny. Danny was a member of another band at the time they all met.

Good Luck Jane is a great original name, who thought of it and what’s the story behind it?
-We all sort of came up with it together. Jane represents a "Jane Doe" who can represent everything behind our music. It isn't anyone specific but Jane is the element of inspiration behind every song, the passion behind their performances, and the motive that pushes them forward.

How would you describe Good Luck Jane to those who perhaps haven’t heard of you?
-We like to consider ourselves a contemporary pop rock. We have influences such as Parachute, Train, The Script, The Cab, and more.

I think my favourite song to listen to by Good Luck Jane is probably ‘Dreamcatcher’, what’s your favourite song to perform?
-"Jane" is probably the most fun to play right now. We released it as our single in March. Joey gets to play guitar on this song, which makes it real fun for everyone to play.

According to your Facebook page you’ve shared the stage with a number well known bands and artists. Who are you most proud to have shared a stage with?
-We would have to say the coolest artist to open for has been Mike Posner because it was a crazy fun show. We would love to play with so many more artists, and we hope to do that at some point in our early career.

What show are you most looking forward to over the next few months?
-We have a lot of plans coming for the summer so we'll have to wait to figure that out, but we have a few shows in Chicago that are going to be real fun for our hometown fans to see.

Are there any plans of a Good Luck Jane tour in the near future?
-We are trying to get a string of dates in June and July to travel a little.

What’s your favourite venue to perform at?
-The Bottom Lounge has been a favorite of ours lately. They have a great stage and soundsystem and we've played some big shows there.

What are the best and worst traits of your fellow band members? Be honest!
-Danny is a little bit of a goofball. We love what he does on stage, and he's actually a great guitarist also. Joey has a lot of passion for what he does. He takes music very seriously which helps get great ideas flowing through the band. Jake is a very creative songwriter. Although he plays drums, he comes up with great melodies on guitar to write songs. He wrote "Jane." Andrew is a twitter maniac. He does so much on social media and connecting with our fans. Dan is very big into his schoolwork, he takes it very seriously and he's a very smart guy.

If you could trade places with anyone in the band for a day, who would it be and why?
Joey would love to trade places with Danny because he would love to see how it would be acting incredibly nice all the time and never getting mad.

What is the collective aim of Good Luck Jane?
We all aim to do bigger things with our music. We consistently write new music to get new ideas. We want to play with our favorite bands and show that we have what it takes to be taking it to the next level. We are trying to reach record labels to get a recording contract, but we like to continually write more to prove we have a pocket full of great artistic ideas.

What is your best memory of being in Good Luck Jane?
-We performed at The University of Iowa's Dance Marathon in February. We got to perform for over 2000 students that helped support childhood cancer. We loved being involved and we hope to do it again next year.

Where do you see yourselves as a band in five years time?
-We would like to be successfully touring full time. We have a lot of work to do and we plan on continually advancing ourselves as a band.
