Live The Story Interview

Live The Story is a pop-punk band from Toronto, Canada. With a selection of full songs and samples of songs on their Myspace page, Live The Story are able to share some of their signature pieces such as ‘We’re In This Together’, ‘Take This To Your Grave’ and ‘Another Chance To Change’. The band consists of Mackenzie Gallagher (Guitar/Vocals), David Fiore (Guitar/Vocals), Vijay Maharaj (Bass) and Joseph Buscema (Drums).

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview, how are you guys?

LTS: We're all great, thanks!

First of all can you give us a bit of history about the band, such as when you formed and how you came together?

JB: The first band that Dave and I had made, broke up and we decided to not give up and to keep going with music. Then one day I was on Facebook chat and asked a girl I went to college with if she knew any bass players, and she recommended Mackenzie. Mack then moved from bass to guitar and we had a good friend named Matt in the band, but he wanted to pursue school. So we recently made Vijay (who was filling in for us for a while) our official bass player. And now here we are, one big happy family!

As you are from Toronto, would you say that Toronto is a good place for up and coming bands to establish themselves? What advice would you give to those who intend to follow in your footsteps?

MG: I feel that we haven't necessarily created those footsteps yet for other bands to theoretically follow them yet. That being said, if I could give any advice to upcoming bands, I'd say work hard and get your name out there the best you can. Play shows and bring the music to the people. And as for Toronto.. tough city for music.

On your myspace you have showcased five of your songs, out of these songs is there a particular favourite which you like to perform?

DF: I'd say Take This To Your Grave.
JB: Ellen Degenerate, 110 percent.
MG: I'll agree with Joe.
VM: We're In This Together.

Is there anything in particular that you use to gain inspiration from in order to write your lyrics? Who mainly writes the lyrics?

MG: Our lyrics are primarily about just whatever we go through or whatever we can relate to at the time. It's our favorite way to express how we feel and allow others to relate to it in their own way. They're very personal to us. I write most of our lyrics.

Which bands or artists heavily influence your music?

DF: Blink 182, Four Year Strong, ADTR, Set Your Goals, Rancid, H20.. I could keep going.
MG: We all pretty much grew up listening to Blink 182, NFG and Green Day. My personal influences are Senses Fail, Say Anything, ADTR, Brand New and Relient K.
JB: Daggermouth, Set Your Goals, Counterparts, A Rocket To The Moon.
VM: Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Rage Against The Machine and ADTR as well.

What would you say makes you individual as a band?

LTS: We're honest and we're not afraid to do what we love.

During your time together what experiences, good or bad, are really prominent in your memories?

MG: We had an amazing time recording pre-production for the first E.P. We went up to a very small beach house in Wasaga Beach, Ontario in the middle of the winter. Dave and I made unforgettable bacon sandwiches and pornography was playing 24/7. Good times.

If you could describe your fellow band members with one word each, what would those words be?

JB: Mack - Depersonalized, Dave - Freebird, Vijay - Disposal.
MG: Dave - Mysterious, Joe - Mario, Vijay - Sensitive.
DF: Mack - Skellington, Joe - Soft-Taco, Vijay - Posi.
VM: Joe - Hairy, Mack - Lanky, Dave - Bonerific.

So far this year what have you achieved as a band and what do you plan to achieve over the coming months?

JB: We have played with a few cool bands like The Wonder Years and Set It Off, both were rad shows. We also confirmed that we will be recording with producer Tom Denney who is a founding member of A Day To Remember so we're all really excited about that. From a personal standpoint, I'd like to get our message and music across to as many people as possible through touring and hopefully impacting someone's life.

What are your plans for the future regarding touring?

DF: We're doing a short Canadian run in the summer then we plan on going to the USA and hopefully over to Europe within a years time.

When you aren’t practicing, playing gigs or writing new material, what do you like to do as a band?

LTS: We have fun the same way anyone else does! We just hangout, go to shows, go to parties and spend time with our friends.

How do you hope to spread the word of Live The Story in order to gain a larger fan base?

LTS: By continuing to write and perform honest music with honest lyrics in hopes of reaching the hearts of people all over the world.

Fast forward five years, where do you believe Live The Story will be and what do you hope will have happened by that point in your careers?

LTS: We hope to be doing what we're doing now on a larger scale. This is the most fun we've ever had and we hope to continue to do this until we're to old to do it anymore.
